“A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall…”
When I was in elementary school, I experienced going on excursions even though it was a rainy day. I don’t really remember where we went, but off we’d go, with everyone wearing raincoats. If it were sunny, we’d probably have been able to do even more kinds of things, and play even more, but, going outside even when it was raining, and being able to experience doing things you wouldn’t usually do on a normal excursion, that in itself was fun.
Even if it’s raining, I don’t put up an umbrella. When I’m walking outside, if the rain starts to fall, well, first of all I run (laughs). I definitely don’t go and buy a vinyl umbrella! There's only one time I bought an umbrella that I remember.
When I went on a trip to Okinawa, there was a downpour of rain, you know. Even though it rained frightfully, I thought, “I’ve come all the way to Okinawa”, and thought I could enjoy myself with my will alone*. In the middle of the rattling rain, I did things like scuba diving. In the water, it doesn’t matter if it’s raining, and I could enjoy it just as much as on a sunny day. When I was under the water, suddenly, I tried looking up at the sky from the bottom of the sea. When I did that, the raindrops were pouring down onto the water’s surface, and I could see countless ripples being made. “Oh, awesome”…it was really mysterious.
We mostly think, “a sunny day means good weather, a rainy day means bad weather”, however, inside of me, I’m able to recall rain as a good memory. On rainy days, if there's some kind of occurrence that happens only when its raining* , if you try to do whatever it is with all your might, you can create a good memory, can’t you? On sunny days and rainy days, if you spend your time laughing heartily, if you can think of every day as good weather, then that's the best!
*This translated as "with willpower" or "one's own mind". Kinda like, he thought he could make himself have a good time even though it was raining.
*I didn't know how to translate "雨ならではのできごとが起こって"...it kinda sounds weird to say "an occurrence that occurs if its in the rain"...and it sounds kinda weird the way I've written it in this article...so if anyone can translate this fluently, please let me know^^
OH, and I might try translating the others (well, Tacchon's anyway) so let me know if u want me to .
